When a file arrives, this is what gets checked

Every order starts with the image file and the way it will sit on the panel. We look at resolution, crop, borders and file format before anything goes to print, because a strong result on aluminium starts with a clean source file. Customers must own the images they send or hold the rights to use them for print.

If the picture is meant for a large wall panel, a file that looks fine on a phone may not hold enough detail once it is stretched across a bigger size. We check for softness, visible noise, lost highlights and shadows, then flag any issue that could show once the dye sublimation is pressed onto the coated aluminium surface.

Getting the finish to match the room

SubAlu panels can be supplied with gloss, matte, white or brushed looks, and the finish changes both the feel and the viewing angle. Gloss brings stronger colour pop and a slick surface, while matte reduces reflection in bright rooms and offices. White gives a clean base for full colour work, and brushed aluminium keeps parts of the metal grain visible for a more industrial result.

  • Gloss for bright colour and punchy photographic work
  • Matte for less glare in lit interiors or gallery spaces
  • White for full colour coverage and clean reproduction
  • Brushed for artwork that suits a visible metal texture

In Randburg and Sandton offices, matte is often the practical choice where there are lights, glass and screens in the same room. Coastal clients in Cape Town or Durban sometimes prefer finishes that are easier to view in changing light and humidity.

Sizing, cropping and multi-panel planning

Not every image fits every wall. We help with crop planning, custom sizing and multi panel layouts so the final set sits properly in the space. A panorama can be split across several panels, while a portrait image may need a different ratio to avoid cutting off important detail. If a logo, face or horizon line is central to the composition, we plan around it rather than forcing a standard size.

For businesses in Johannesburg, Pretoria or Gqeberha, we can map out a feature wall arrangement that works around doors, reception counters or existing signage. That saves a lot of back and forth later, and it keeps the final layout balanced.

Mounting that stays put on the wall

Aluminium panels are light compared with framed glass work, but they still need the right hanging hardware for the wall type. We can guide you on flush mounting, stand-off fittings or other attachment methods depending on the panel size and where it will hang. Brick, drywall and tiled surfaces each need different fixings and care.

  • Flush options for a clean, low profile look
  • Stand-off fittings for a floating effect
  • Hardware suited to brick, drywall or solid surfaces
  • Advice for reception areas, homes and retail interiors

If the panel is going into a coastal property or a busy commercial space, the mounting choice matters as much as the print itself. Good fixings help the panel sit level and stay secure through daily use and temperature changes.

Before print day, the colour work matters

Colour preparation is not just about making an image brighter. We adjust files so skin tones, dark areas and branded colours hold together when transferred through dye sublimation onto the coated aluminium sheet. A test panel is useful when a job has critical colour or when a repeat order needs to match an earlier output closely.

Photographers often want fine control over shadow detail. Artists may want a softer shift in tone, and businesses usually need artwork or product imagery to match their brand colours as closely as possible. Johan Mafokeng leads that prepress process so the print is ready for production without avoidable surprises.

Packing, delivery and aftercare for the long haul

Once a panel is complete, packing has to protect the corners, surface and mounting points. We prepare work for delivery across Randburg, Johannesburg, Midrand, Sandton, Pretoria, Cape Town, Durban and Gqeberha, with care taken for each route and each size. Larger panels need extra protection so they arrive without edge damage or scuffs.

For aftercare, a soft dry cloth is usually enough for regular cleaning. Avoid harsh chemicals, abrasive pads or soaking the surface. In humid areas or rooms with strong sun, that basic care helps the panel keep its finish and image clarity for longer. If a reprint is needed later, we can match the earlier file setup where possible so the new panel sits naturally beside the original.

Who answers when you need a hand

Support at SubAlu is handled by a small team that knows the production steps well. Mandla Chetty oversees the business, Lerato Ntsele manages production, Ayesha Moagi handles client service, Sibusiso Salie manages finishing and mounting, and Nicole Adams coordinates logistics and dispatch. That means the person guiding your order understands what happens at each stage.

Clients can reach us through the enquiry form on our contact page for file questions, sizing help, mounting advice or delivery checks. If the order is straightforward, we process it without delay. If it needs a closer look, we say so early and explain the next step clearly.
