Measured for the wall, not forced to fit it
Custom sizing starts with the wall space and the image you want to print. We look at width, height, viewing distance and whether the panel will sit above a couch, in a reception, in a gallery line-up or as a single feature piece. From there we set the panel size so the image feels balanced, with enough border allowance for hanging hardware and safe handling during installation.
Aluminium photo panels suit a wide range of spaces because they stay flat and present clean edges. They are useful where humidity, dust or bright light can be an issue, including coastal sites and busy office interiors. For clients in Johannesburg, Cape Town, Durban, Pretoria and Gqeberha, the right size often matters as much as the finish.
What is included in a custom sizing order
Every custom sizing order includes practical checks before anything is printed. We confirm the image ratio, crop allowances and the final panel dimensions. If needed, we advise on whether one panel, a pair or a multi panel layout will suit the image better. You can also choose the finish that works with the room and subject matter.
- File check for size and sharpness
- Resolution review for print suitability
- Crop planning to protect important image areas
- Finish selection: gloss, matte, white or brushed
- Mounting option guidance for wall type and panel size
- Packing and delivery planning for local and national orders
We work with customers who own the image rights or have permission to use the images supplied. That keeps the process clean and practical from the start.
How the panel is made to size
The image is prepared for dye sublimation onto a coated aluminium panel. The print plan includes the exact cut size, safe edge allowances and the final hanging position. For brighter work, gloss can give stronger colour pop. Matte reduces glare under office lighting. White gives a clean base for full colour work, while brushed aluminium lets parts of the image interact with the metallic surface for a more industrial look.
Where an image needs extra space on the wall, we can size it to a custom width or height that suits the room layout. If the artwork needs to be split across several panels, we can plan the joins so the spacing looks deliberate rather than rushed.
- Small feature panels for narrow walls
- Large statement pieces for boardrooms or foyers
- Panoramic formats for landscapes and city scenes
- Vertical panels for hallways and compact rooms
A working process that keeps the measurements honest
The process is straightforward. Send the artwork, the rough wall size and any hanging requirements. We then check the file, confirm the aspect ratio and advise on the best size range. If the image needs cropping, we flag the areas that will be trimmed so you can approve the layout before production. That reduces surprises at installation and avoids losing faces, signatures or key details.
For trade clients, later runs can be matched to previous dimensions where needed. That helps when a reception is being expanded, an office is adding matching artwork or a business wants more panels in the same visual family. We also handle test panels where a client wants to compare finish, colour and scale before a larger run.
Turnaround, pricing and delivery notes
Turnaround depends on size, quantity, finish and whether any pre production checks are required. Smaller orders are generally quicker than large multi panel sets, especially when there is colour adjustment or a special hanging request involved. We always factor in the practical side of production, including drying, trimming, mounting and packing for safe transport.
Pricing is based on panel size, material choice, finish, hardware and delivery destination. Larger formats cost more because they use more material and require more careful handling. Multi panel layouts are priced according to the number of pieces and the amount of set-up involved. For Johannesburg, Pretoria, Midrand and Sandton deliveries, and for national shipments to Cape Town, Durban and Gqeberha, packing is treated as part of the job rather than an afterthought.
- Single custom panel pricing differs from multi panel pricing
- Very large panels may need extra support or reinforced mounting
- Delivery costs depend on route, size and packing requirements
- Urgent work is considered case by case, depending on the queue
Aftercare for large and small wall pieces
Once installed, aluminium photo panels are easy to care for. A soft dry cloth usually handles everyday dust. If a panel needs a light clean, use a slightly damp cloth and avoid harsh chemicals or abrasive pads. Gloss finishes can show fingerprints more easily, while matte and brushed finishes are often more forgiving in busy spaces.
For long term use, keep the panel out of direct contact with standing water and avoid placing it where repeated steam or heat could affect surrounding fittings. If a panel is moving between offices or being reinstalled after building work, store it flat and protected. We can also give guidance on reprint matching where a client wants a new panel to sit alongside an older one with a close colour and finish match.
