Two panels, one visual rhythm

A diptych print set is made by splitting a single image across two aluminium panels, or by pairing related images so they read together. The effect is stronger than one flat print because the gap between the panels creates pace and balance, while still keeping the work neat for homes, reception areas, boardrooms and gallery walls.

SubAlu produces diptychs by dye sublimation onto coated aluminium panels, which allows the image to bond into the coating for a crisp finish and good colour depth. Sizes, panel finishes and the way they hang

Diptych sets are usually ordered in matching sizes, though the two panels can also be made in different widths if the image calls for it. Common options include compact feature pieces for passage walls, larger statement sets for lounges and meeting rooms, and made-to-size panels for feature walls, stairwells or hospitality spaces. For custom work, we can adjust the panel proportions so the final set suits the wall space and the image crop at the same time.

Finish choice changes the look of the image. Gloss gives stronger colour pop and a brighter surface, matte reduces reflection where lighting is direct, white aluminium suits full-colour images with clean whites, and brushed aluminium leaves a metallic grain visible in lighter parts of the artwork. The right finish depends on the subject, the room lighting and whether the client wants a softer or more reflective result.

Hanging hardware is selected to suit the panel size and weight, and the mounting method is chosen so the two panels sit level and evenly spaced. For larger diptychs, accurate wall marking matters, especially on tiled surfaces, plasterboard, or walls where there is a slight bow. A careful install gives the set a cleaner line and helps keep the join visually straight.

Details to confirm before production

To quote and produce a diptych accurately, we need the panel size, the finish, the split layout and the file supplied. It also helps to know whether the set is for a home, gallery, office or retail wall, because that affects the mounting choice and the way the crop is handled. If the image includes text, logos or faces close to the edge, those details must be checked carefully before printing.
